Joe Cocker’s “You Are So Beautiful”
Can’t You See ♪
The question of how beauty is defined and perceived is explored to the tune of the timeless classic “You Are So Beautiful.”
On the one hand, modern-day standards of beauty have been largely dictated and influenced by the media, setting goals that remain unattainable to the vast majority. On the other hand, love stories and songs tend to celebrate the same core message of loving unconditionally.
It was interesting to explore how these ideas fight and fit into larger themes like consumerism, depression, celebrity-worship, and body dysmorphic disorders. The chosen visual style is that of the stark hardboiled noir comics of the 40s and 50s.
